- Facebook Image Sizes: For Facebook, you will have to choose amidst the two types of images – one are those that you specifically create for sharing over Facebook and others that are directly shared over Facebook. These are basically those images that you use for optimizing your blog posts and website pages.
Firstly, the images you directly share over Facebook:
Such images when shared directly over Facebook appear with a maximum width of 470 pixels, which is so far the maximum width for an image that could be shown in Facebook feed. In case, you upload square shaped images that are larger than 470 pixels, it will get scald automatically. Similarly, if you upload an image that is smaller than 470 pixels, it will seem blurred as Facebook will scale it automatically to 470. Therefore, it is best when you share square shaped images that are nearly 470 pixels in size.
Landscape images get scaled to a width of 470 pixels and the height is adjusted as per the width. Those that are less than 470 pixels width would be aligned to the left and the leftover space over the right would be covered using some white space. For portrait images, the maximum height is 394 pixels, which will be adjusted as per the height. Portrait images also get aligned to the left and the extra space to the right is left with white background.
Optimizing images for web pages and blog posts:
Most of the images that you see along with the links shared in your feed contain big images as shown in the image below. Others might look like the images as posted above and there are chances for some to have no image at all.
Links that come with larger images are known to dominate the news feed. The reason is that they occupy more space than other content. Owing to their size, they manage to occupy more space and hence manage to acquire more ‘Likes’, comments and shares, as a whole say that they manage to encourage engagement. Make sure that the links shared from your website appear along with the big image that adheres by the dimensions 560 X 292 pixels. For images that are bigger in size, they will be cropped so that they fit the size. All those images that are smaller than 560 X 292 pixels will look like small thumbnails that are 158 X 158 pixels in size.
- Twitter Image Sizes:
For the images larger than 506 X 253 pixels, the viewer will have to click over the image to expand it. The maximum dimensions for the expanded images would be 1024 X 512 pixels. All those images that do not follow the 2:1 ratio will get cropped to fit the required dimensions. Some bits of the image might get removed, which would not look that good, so ensure that the images are cropped while keeping the ratio in mind.
- Google+ Image Sizes:
For the images that appear in the Google+ feed, you should keep the maximum width as 346 pixels as the height would get scaled according as per this width.
