Running a re-branding campaign can be equally terrifying and exciting. Even companies like Google do it time-to-time. If you look at the evolution of Google’s logo, then you will understand what I am trying to say here. However, in terms of SEO, re-branding can be a nightmare, because a lot of things get changed, which can push your websites back in Google pages. How scary, isn’t it? Due to the SEO factor, a lot of companies never do re-branding when they die internally to change their look and welcome new changes for a new journey.

Sometimes, it’s truly hard to keep the original domain name because you want to introduce an entire different name, which won’t suit the existing domain name. Try to keep your domain name as it is because if you change, you are likely to lose a lot of search engine traffic.

However, if you are determined about changing the name and willing to take risks because your current business name is screeching is in your ears to have a tweak or makeover; then, read the guidelines by heart before doing it. Also, don’t skip the re-directs part at all. It will drive the traffic from the links that you have scattered on different places during SEO campaign.

So you have decided to revamp your business name. It’s okay if you want to do anyhow. Now, try to keep the original content on the website – and, if you want to change it, try keeping it close to the original as much as you can. Sometimes, Google takes days to recognize your new IP address, and if you dump your old site before this, you are entering the danger area.

Redirecting is a great way to maintain user experience without losing potential leads and visitors. The difficulty level of redirection depends on upon your URL structure. If you are maintaining same websites and URL structure, then it’s easy to do.

However, if you aren’t doing this, then you may need to some guidance and knowledge to adhere to Google’s standards. Don’t get scared. It’s not the end of the world. If you follow guidelines, then you will do redirection without any problem.

It’s not a good idea or let’s says, it’s very hard to redirect your old pages to new pages because the URL will be changed.

Hence, you have to redirect the old pages to the most relevant one. That’s why I suggested keeping the new content close to the old content, replicating the old content in a fresh way.

  1. Market Your New Brand Without Limits

If you have to shout your new brand from the rooftop, then don’t hesitate in doing so. It starts from your social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram etc.

  • Keep in the back of your mind that you can change username only once in Facebook. So decide what you want to do before making a change. It’s better to take time and decide, rather than cursing yourself for the wrong step.
  • Twitter has millions of inactive accounts. So if someone has an account with the username of your company, it’s better to reach them and ask to get the username. A lot of companies do that and able to do within business dealings in a legal way. Twitter also suggests you this because they are slow in the process.
  • LinkedIn is flexible in the rebranding process. Even if someone has the same name like your company, you can contact LinkedIn itself to change the URL with some addition after your company’s name.

In addition, use press releases, email announcements, guest posts, and other forms of online advertising to spread the word about the new name. People are fairly busy in their own lives. Do whatever you can to gain followers’ attention for your new avatar.

Track the success of your new makeover to prepare a better strategy. You have to give all you have and do all possible things; otherwise, there’s no use of doing a re-branding.

Check out the report by marketingland.com on the importance of mobiles, more than 56% traffic is coming to the top sites from the handheld devices. It’s likely to increase in the future due to a drop in desktop sales and sudden increase in mobile sales.

If you are aware of the mobile’s dominance, then it’s a smart move to consider mobile website during the rebranding phase. If you are considering launching a new website for mobile devices, then that’s a whole new debate. Mobile Apps do well in this matter, and considering the importance of Response Web Design (RWD) and SEO relevancy, you might stay with your current website for both platforms.
